We had 3 Babies!

I am joining in on the #meetthemakerweek and wanted to start the week off by introducing myself for those of you that are new to my pages. I’m Larissa, but I go by LJ online 🙋🏻‍♀️I am a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom and I love to make pretty things! Earrings are one of my favorite things to make, so you’ll see a lot of that on my website (link in bio). I make earrings out of clay, and also faux leather. I’ve recently started branching out into home decor with my handmade canvas signs, and even some other fun things like camping buckets (think big lanterns) and birth stats plushies (keep an eye out for these! We started our new year of homeschooling this week

We started our new year of homeschooling this week! We are year round homeschoolers and I typically try to begin our next year in late July or early August. This year we started my oldest on 3rd grade, and we added my younger two (4yo boy, 3yo girl) in with preschool!
My philosophy of preschool age learning is to have it primarily play based. Keep it fun and relaxed! We aren’t in a sprint! Learning is a lifelong marathon, so keep it fun and engaging.

A new way to start our day... This year my focus i

A new way to start our day... This year my focus is on creating better disciplines and routines for our family. A part of that process is realizing our bad habits. We had gotten into the habit of turning the TV on for the kids when they wake up in the morning, especially on those mornings they wake up extra early and the coffee is slow to kick in for us.
We realized how starting the day with TV set us up for a lazy, unproductive, bad attitude day. The kids expected to just keep watching show after show, school got pushed back later and later, and we were less and less productive each day.

So we are trying a new routine. We start with a 10 minute exercise video for the kids. It gets them up and moving and gets some of their wiggles out.
After this we moved into our Bible study. It’s time I put first things first. This was another bad habit I had fallen into. I was so concerned about getting Language Arts and Math done that I would put off our Bible Study and it fell by the wayside. So now it is the first thing we sit and do in the morning. I have my cup of coffee with me and our Bible study materials. we have had some amazing conversations through our study!
So far it has been a much happier and productive way to start our day. And I am not a morning person so this has been a great way to ease into a productive day!! Do you have a morning routine for your homeschool?? I’d love to hear about it and what works for you!! .

Cotton balls for the win!! I’m always surprised

Cotton balls for the win!! I’m always surprised how adding a simple little object to a lesson motivates her. Today we covered each word she read with a little cotton ball and she loved it! Bonus: it wasn’t even my idea, our curriculum suggests these fun little additions to the lesson! One less thing for this mama to have to try to come up with is always helpful!! Working smarter, not harder on this beautiful Monday morning!! How is your week starting off??
